Akshay

The plains and woods of Akshay encompass a rather large section of the Bhaskaran continent.  It’s ruled, lightly, by a dragon named Havadar, which means “breezy” or “airy.”  It’s a wild and open place, perfect for those who prefer freedom to any other thing.

Pahara, Lady of Mahday

This week’s blog is about the dragon who rules Mahday: Pahara.  She’s a quiet being who is ruthless in her leadership.  But she’s not cruel for the sake of cruelty.  She’s fair, but has little mercy.

Again this week, the featured images on the blog are the photographs of the Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains, by photographer Alex Grichenko.  You can see and download his work at http://www.publicdomainpictures.net/browse-author.php?a=49311

Mahday

This week is an introduction to the part of Bhaskara named Mahday.  It’s a beautiful land of low rolling mountains covered in forests.  You can read the full page here: Mahday.

Turning Day

A longer blog, still about the holidays.  Devanand celebrates it’s New Year on the autumnal equinox, not on some random day in the middle of winter the way we do.  Rather than making a new page, I updated the Holiday Traditions page that I published last week.

You can read all about the Devanandi new year here: Holiday Traditions.

Feasting Day

Short blog today.  In honor of the winter holidays, I decided to write a little about Devanandi holiday traditions.  You can read about Feasting Day (the winter solstice) here: Holiday Traditions

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Devanandi Names

A short blog this week about naming conventions in the world of Devanand.

I love languages, and accents, and learning about other cultures, and have tried to add some of that flavor into my world.

I use the Internet extensively for English-Other language translation, and realize that not all my translations are 100% accurate.  But I’m looking for names for a fantasy world, not trying to speak other languages, so I don’t worry about it *too* much. 😀

The page is here: A Guide to Devanandi Names

Enjoy it, and Happy Holidays!

The Children of God’s Joy, pt. 2

This week I take a look at the elves and humans of Devanand.   Humans you should already know, but this compares them to their sister races.  The elves may be different from those you’re used to, as they’re not from a land of Faerie, but evolved from the same mammals as humans, dwarves, and gnomes.

Children of God’s Joy

Devanand, which means God’s Joy, has five sentient races: dragons, dwarves, gnomes, elves, and humans.

The blog this week gives an overview of dwarves and gnomes, a bare-bones look at their temperaments and social structures.

Powers and Principalities

This week’s blog focuses on Devanand’s deities, clerics, and magical powers.  This is not a list of the gods, but an overview of the powers that exist in the world, and the difference between divine power and magic.

Coin and Commerce

This week I’ve written an overview of the economy of Devanand.  When money is used, the basic unit is the copper.  Many transactions use a half- or quarter-coin.  Only the very wealthy use gold, and platinum coins are used only at the governmental level.
